Dear Graduate Students,
The GSA stands in solidarity with our members who are expressing their concerns and voicing their thoughts. We acknowledge the challenging times we are in and the deep impact it has on our community. We are committed to upholding the principles of academic freedom and freedom of expression, which are not just privileges, but fundamental tenets that foster intellectual inquiry, critical thinking, and the pursuit of knowledge without fear of censorship or reprisal.
We understand that students have initiated an encampment protest on campus since yesterday. We recognize the seriousness of the situation and the deep emotions it evokes. The GSA remains a space for open dialogue and supports all members’ right to express their views peacefully. We encourage respectful discourse and understanding.
In these trying times, we urge all parties involved to engage in constructive dialogue, respecting the diverse perspectives within our community. We believe that it is through such dialogue that we can find common ground and work towards solutions that respect everyone’s rights and freedoms. The GSA executive body would be willing to accompany in any such dialogues and help with the negotiations, if and when needed.
For those seeking resources or support, we are here to help. Please reach out to us at gsa.frontdesk@ualberta.ca, and we will do our best to provide the necessary assistance.
In solidarity,
GSA UofA Executives
