Zain moved to Edmonton from the United Kingdom in 2012. He completed a BSc Honors in Pharmacology at the University of Alberta in 2021 before pursuing a PhD in Cell Biology under the supervision of Dr. Qiumin Tan where he studies cell death during brain development. Throughout his time on campus, Zain has worked and volunteered for a number of initiatives including the Week of Welcome program, NeurAlbertaTech and the Graduate Students’ Association. He served as Councillor for the Department of Cell Biology for one year, followed by another year as Deputy Returning Speaker. Beyond research and volunteering, Zain has several hobbies including playing video games, spending time with friends and family, playing Dungeons and Dragons, and most importantly, chilling with his cat.
